The territorial characteristic of the municipality is distinguished by its two constituent territories – the coast, covering the section between Cape Atia and Maslen Cape, and the plain, which in the southern direction gradually passes into the heights of Strandzha.

Of the 51 km of coastline, 17.1 km are occupied by sandy beaches.

The town of Sozopol is 30 km from the regional centre of Burgas – the largest and most important economic and transport centre in the Burgas (Strandzha) Black Sea region. For the development of international tourism, the municipality’s proximity to world-famous destinations such as Greece and Turkey, as well as the sea links to the Mediterranean, are of significant importance. The outlet to the Black Sea increases the transport-geographical and tourist importance of the municipality. The contact with the sea is a useful resource for the development of tourism, port activities and fishing. The attractive natural and economic conditions have been and continue to be a factor in the concentration of population and economic activities in the coastal strip of Sozopol Municipality.

The polis of Apollonia Pontica, the predecessor of Sozopol, was established in 611 B.C. in the southern part of the Burgas bay on the Black Sea as a part of the Greek colonization of the Mediterranean basin, scientifically called “The Great Greek Colonization”. This is why it is imperative that we first present the details on this process, which are useful to every non-professional reader in the field of history.

The Greek ethnos was differentiated in the middle of the II millennium B.C., meaning that every individual in the community had the self-awareness that he belonged to a separate ethnical group called Hellene. Lands, which were inhabited mainly with the Hellenic ethnos, were the lands of the Greeks – Hellas. There wasn’t a unified state or at least a state that included most of the Hellenic lands in this period and even later, with the exception of the short-lived empire of Philip and Alexander of Macedonia. The Hellenes were divided into hundreds of small Greek state formations in the lands of Hellas, spreading around the VIII c. B.C. on the territory of present-day Greece, the Asia Minor coastline and the islands in the Aegean. These state formations with an area between several square kilometers and several thousand square kilometers had around the VIII c. B.C. different forms of government ranging from democracy to monarchy.

In the winter of 1896, patriots from Sozopol gathered in the newly built Bulgarian school “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” to establish the Sozopol Educational and Charitable Society “Father Paisiy.” Among them were Dimitar Pintiev, Mihail Dzhevelekov, Ivan Chitakov, Todor Kalachev, Dimitar Kalugerovich, and others. Stoyan Shivachev was elected chairman. On May 2, 1896, the patriots issued an appeal in support of their activities. In fact, this marked the beginning of the community cultural center “Father Paisiy” in Sozopol.

After 1903, many participants of the Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising who had settled in Sozopol joined the cultural activities. Two decades later, graduates of the local Fisheries School also became involved. Memorial celebrations, evening gatherings, theatrical performances, courses, and other events were organized. Over the years, the community center’s work passed through school classrooms, the church café, and other venues.

A new chapter for the “Father Paisiy” community center in Sozopol began with the construction of a modern building, which opened its doors on August 21, 1978.

The building included a theater hall, library, cinema-video club, welcoming dressing rooms, and rooms for club activities—just part of the facilities of the “Father Paisiy” community center in Sozopol.

The most vibrant activities under its roof are those for children: the folk dance ensemble with established traditions, the solo singing school, the piano school, the guitar school, the modern ballet school, the vocal group, the majorette troupe, and the art school.

The community center “Father Paisiy” in Sozopol is also a favorite place for adults. The performances of the old-town songs group, the pop song group, the dance ensemble, and the folklore group are warmly received both in Bulgaria and abroad. Theatrical productions by the center’s troupe also attract great interest.

Numerous and diverse are the awards and honors won by the “Father Paisiy” community center in Sozopol from participation in prestigious festivals and cultural reviews.

Located in the heart of Sozopol’s Old Town, Estrella impresses with its cozy atmosphere and diverse cuisine. The restaurant uses fresh ingredients, with a special highlight on farm-raised Black Sea mussels supplied by the licensed mussel farm “Millennium Sozopol” – renowned for its high quality and sustainable practices. Guests can expect attentive service and dishes prepared with precision and care for every detail.

The house is a cultural monument. It was built by Dr. Rashko Petrov – one of the first Bulgarian doctors, graduates to study abroad. He was an ally and
supporter of Levski. It is said that Levski himself had visited the home of his
confidant. The temporary Russian headquarters after the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878 was housed here for a short time.

Today the building has been restored and shines in its former style,
corresponding to the collection of eng. Dimitar Georgiev from exceptional works of fine art, and also the Revival motifs in the spacious halls are preserved in perfect condition.
